CANOE / KAYAK EVENT
Enjoy paddling down the Milwaukee River from Brown Deer Road and the river on Sunday, May 2nd. Meet at the parking lot east of the bridge at 1:30 PM with your own canoe or kayak. Paddle down to Kletzsch Park where you can enjoy some food and drink and receive a ride back to your vehicle. Participants are requested to sign a Liability Waiver form.
WINGS AND WILDFLOWERS
Bring along a friend and join a small group hike for birding at the peak of spring migration on May 16th at 7:30 AM. The Milwaukee River Woodland is a good place for birds to stop-over before continuing northward. Kletzsch Park is one of the best places to learn to identify resident and migrant birds by their spring songs and calls. We can share a pair of binoculars with you if you do not have your own. Bird field guides and sound recordings will help us with identification.
Besides looking for birds, we will stop to check out any spring wildflowers we find along the park trails. While the focus is on birds and wildflowers, any interesting sights will be shared or explored. Encourage anyone with a knowledge of local culture or natural history to come along and share their insights with fellow hikers. Dress for the weather; hiking shoes and water are suggested. Bring binoculars, bird and flower guides if you have them.
Trip leader: Mark Feider
Meet at the Acorn Lounge at 7:30 AM. We should hike until about 9:30 AM. If a family with younger people are interested in introducing their kids to bird watching, we will go out again on a kids' focused hike from 10 to 11:30 AM.
